Nordstrom Expands Procurement Initiative with ICG Commerce
Leading Specialty Fashion Retailer Selects a Procurement Service Provider for a Partnership in Driving Procurement Improvements
PHILADELPHIA - Tuesday, July 31, 2001 - ICG Commerce, a leading comprehensive procurement service provider,
announced today that they have expanded their partnership with Nordstrom to centralize the company's procurement
process and deliver costs reductions over the next 4 years. ICG Commerce and Nordstrom completed an initial
implementation of the procurement initiative, which exceeded early goals and expectations.
Through a partnership approach, ICG Commerce and Nordstrom combined resources to analyze, organize and deliver
more efficient buying processes across Nordstrom's Purchasing Department. Nordstrom leveraged ICG Commerce's
RealExchangeSM for purchasing items within several pre-sourced, indirect categories. The initial implementation
resulted in early unit, transaction and operational cost savings for Nordstrom along with the opportunity to focus
resources on more strategic purchases.
"As we looked at the strategic sourcing people ICG Commerce brought in, the value of partnering them with our
commodity managers became very clear," said Steve Kesinger, vice president of Procurement for Nordstrom. "In
essence, we are extending our resources by combining our commodity managers with the category experts from ICG
Commerce to enhance our capabilities."
Nordstrom and ICG Commerce have had initial success in implementing indirect categories such as corporate travel,
logistics, business forms, office supplies and corrugated boxes. ICG Commerce provides Nordstrom corporate buyers
access to pre-negotiated categories via the RealExchange. ICG Commerce uses strategic sourcing strategies and
demand aggregation to lower the costs of purchased goods.
Due to the early success, Nordstrom and ICG Commerce are now expanding the procurement initiative nationwide to
provide services and technology to over 140 Nordstrom facilities. There will be approximately 1,200 Nordstrom
employees accessing ICG Commerce's aggregated deals online over the next few years. As part of the expansion,
Nordstrom will leverage ICG Commerce's sourcing expertise and technology for purchases within additional
categories.
"If you're a company looking for savings and results immediately, your only choice today is a comprehensive
procurement service provider," said Bill Toler, President of the Exchange and Services Division for ICG Commerce.
"The results that Nordstrom and ICG Commerce have been able to achieve together, is a testament to the partnership
we've been fortunate to build."
