ICG Commerce Adds New Visibility, Supplier Management Capabilities to RealExchange (SM)
Enhancements Part of Procurement Services Provider's Strategy to Bring Additional Value to Transaction Phase of Purchasing Cycle
PHILADELPHIA - Tuesday, April 02, 2002 - IICG Commerce, a leading Procurement Services Provider, announced today
several enhancements to its Managed e-Procurement platform. RealExchange provides customers the ability to access
pre-negotiated savings online and supports the entire purchasing process from requisition to payment processing. These
latest enhancements are designed to bring an even greater level of search ability, order visibility and supplier service
to electronic procurement.
RealExchange, which has processed more than 1.5 million transactions since its launch 2 years ago, provides access to
pre-negotiated savings with preferred suppliers and is a comprehensive e-procurement platform that streamlines the
purchasing process. With complete "requisition-to-payment processing" functionality, ICG Commerce customers
purchase more efficiently while increasing control and compliance on their corporate spending and achieve hard-dollar
costs savings.
Foremost among the new enhancements to the Web-based purchasing platform is the integration of an electronic
Vendor Managed Inventory (eVMI) service. For ICG Commerce customers looking to suppliers to manage and
replenish inventory, RealExchange now allows suppliers control in placing orders and replenishing the customers'
inventory levels. When a customer's inventory supply is low, the supplier can electronically place the order through
RealExchange on behalf of the customer against a pre-approved purchase order. The supplier then fulfills the order and
an electronic invoice is sent through RealExchange. The introduction of eVMI to RealExchange marks one of the first
instances of these capabilities being offered in a hosted environment.
"Through this enhancement, we've created an opportunity for ICG Commerce customers to significantly reduce the
costs and efforts associated with managing and replenishing inventory levels," said Eric DiCianno, ICG Commerce
chief technology officer. "ICG Commerce's RealExchange goes well beyond traditional procurement technologies that
are only focused on the placement of orders. eVMI is part of our vision to take customers to the next generation of
managing relationships with suppliers."
Other RealExchange enhancements, which are focused on improving usability and visibility, include:
Real-time order visibility at each step of the fulfillment process so that customers will know when an item is shipped,
on back-order, fulfilled or cancelled.
The ability for customers to request specific delivery dates for each item of an order. This flexibility allows customers
to tailor the timing of when they will receive their different items within a single order.
Expanded features that allow customers to request and receive supplier quotes on non-routine, "spot buy" purchases.
ICG Commerce procurement specialists receive the spot buy requests through RealExchange. They then source
suppliers and quickly send quotes back to the customer for a purchasing decision.
Improved search capabilities have been implemented to return search results faster and in order of relevancy. With a
robust search engine already in place, this enhancement will allow customers to realize even greater timesavings in
finding their items.
Each of these enhancements is available immediately and involves no additional software requirements or costs for
ICG Commerce customers.
Beyond the technology platform, ICG Commerce's RealExchange provides access to pre-negotiated supplier
agreements, which reflect optimal pricing and service as a result of the aggregated buying power of ICG Commerce's
entire customer base. Customers make purchases against these pre-sourced supplier agreements through as many as 40
pre-built e-catalogs containing more than two million SKUs.
RealExchange is a component of ICG Commerce's comprehensive offering, which combines deep sourcing and
procurement expertise with Internet-based technologies to deliver significant, measurable cost savings. Companies
leverage ICG Commerce's services to help them identify savings opportunities, source the best total cost suppliers and
access their supplier's products through a single purchasing platform. This approach has proven not only to deliver 5 -
25% in bottom-line cost reductions, but faster and more efficient sourcing and transaction processes, high user
compliance and improved supplier performance.
