Transora Selects ICG Commerce to Add Critical e-Procurement Capabilities During First Quarter
ICG Commerce and Transora to establish marketplace liquidity by providing supplier networks and content
PHILADELPHIA - Monday, March 05, 2001 - Leading Internet procurement services provider ICG Commerce today
announced that Transora, the largest global e-Marketplace for the consumer packaged goods (CPG) industry, has selected
ICG Commerce to provide critical e-Procurement services - including indirect category content, aggregated catalogs and
exchange infrastructure - to Transora participants in North America.
These capabilities enable the two companies to reach a critical milestone in marketplace liquidity and rapid return on
investment for their customers.
"Transora's agreement with ICG Commerce creates a 'win-win-win' scenario for customers, suppliers and industry
marketplaces overall," said Judy Sprieser, CEO of Transora. "By delivering real savings to customers, while
demonstrating the potential trading relationships that exist for suppliers, ICG Commerce and Transora create a winning
scenario for all participants."
The initial agreement between the two companies calls for a portion of Transora's expected $11 billion of indirect
material purchases to be directed through ICG Commerce's e-Procurement aggregation services and infrastructure. That
estimated amount has the potential to significantly increase as companies join and participate in the Transora
marketplace.
"A critical measure of success for Transora is our ability to offer our participants transactions based on collaboratively
sourced deals. This delivers hard-dollar savings rapidly," said Rick Herbst, Transora's chief business officer. "By
combining our participants' e-Procurement strategies, our own technology platform with ICG Commerce's
comprehensive e-Procurement capabilities, particularly in aggregation services, we create an outstanding set of options
for achieving the best total cost-of-ownership solution for all Transora participants, regardless of their size or level of
procurement needs," he added.
As part of the agreement, the two firms are exploring ways to quickly adapt these capabilities for Transora's European
customers. Additionally, Transora and ICG Commerce are exploring a broader agreement to provide Transora
participants with additional outsourced sourcing, content, auction, and technology services in the longer term.
Transora is leveraging ICG Commerce's capabilities to provide its participants with a variety of leading-edge
procurement services, including:
Immediate access to ICG Commerce's pre-sourced catalogs, which reflect aggregated pricing that has already been
negotiated across 11 key indirect product categories; and the potential to bring additional value to those categories
based on Transora's complementary capabilities
Management of Transora-negotiated CPG-specific supplier agreements and content in these categories
New supplier agreements through ICG's global supplier base for indirect goods across North America, Asia and
Europe, utilizing Transora's complementary capabilities for these items.
Transora and ICG Commerce expect to immediately deliver two mission-critical benefits to the marketplace:
Immediate liquidity, via rapid access to content that drives savings for customers
The flexibility for Transora customers to focus on managing their more strategic product/service categories by using
ICG Commerce's infrastructure, aggregated deals, and sourcing experts to manage indirect purchases
ICG Commerce is a market leader in providing comprehensive, yet tailored, procurement services and solutions to
companies and marketplaces to enable them to rapidly capture savings from throughout the procurement process.
"Transora's endorsement of ICG Commerce helps continue to validate that our rapid ROI and results-oriented approach
is truly workable for marketplaces with the largest of customers," said Rick Berry, president and CEO of ICG
Commerce. "Not only does this agreement bring additional customers to our business, it also places us at the forefront
in driving the success of even the biggest of industry marketplaces."
